Overview

The MA TESOL program was first established in 2003 as a division of Graduate Institute of Linguistics and Cultural Studies. Two years later (in 2005), it became one of the few TESOL graduate institutes in Taiwan. The institute aims to advance the development of a comprehensive and up-to-date English teacher training program, providing both prospective and experienced English teachers with invaluable opportunities and resources for active engagement in research and practicum to further their studies and career.

The program integrates the latest development of technology and language learning, and offers various courses, such as computer-assisted language learning, design and development of multimedia language teaching materials.

 

Program

The program is informed by the latest research which reflects contemporary insights into language teaching and learning. The curriculum is informed by research and current developments in theory and practice surrounding language teaching and learning. It provides students with a strong theoretical and practical foundation in applied linguistics, language acquisition, TESOL methodology, cross-cultural studies and curriculum development, one of its main features being offering courses such as computer-assisted language learning, mobile technology and language learning, and e-learning and language teaching, which allows students to grasp the trend of English teaching in the E generation, and integrate the latest theories into their teaching practices. Students will experience a variety of learning opportunities from lectures and discussion groups to talks from invited guests.
