The College was established in 1995, in response to an increasing need to make the university a comprehensive higher educational institution. The aims, through its teaching and research programs, to equip students with creative and critical thinking skills in a variety of fields of the humanities and social sciences, to prepare them for thinking in a global perspective while remaining grounded in Taiwan. Now our college has been established for twenty years and there are 65 faculty (2016) and 840 students (2016) .
Vision
The education will focus both on globalization and localization, seeking to be firmly grounded in Taiwan and yet with a world outlook. The College will undertake forward-looking researches, so as to produce students capable of creative and critical thinking in the fields of humanities and social sciences. Graduates are expected to influence and contribute to the society in a multifarious and diversified manner.
Objective
- To equip outstanding students with professional skills, a critical mind and a global perspective, so that they could answer to the needs of the society and lead it in its development. The various departments and graduate institutes hopefully will attract the best candidates for training.
- To undertake basic and applied researches in humanities and social sciences, and to develop avant-garde and integrative research fields. The aim is to become a first-rate college of humanities and social sciences in Asia, focusing in the various fields of studies on Asian and Pacific region. The studies will provide a foundation for connecting to similar inquiries in Europe and America, as well as serve as a platform for cooperation with Asian and Pacific countries.
- To broaden the exchange with national and international institutions, so as to strengthen the international experiences for students, and to add to the depth and breadth of scholarly cooperation.

- Inviting outstanding talent and providing assistance regarding teaching and research.
- Creating an open and frank organizational culture as well as a warm and harmonious organizational atmosphere to enhance interdepartmental interaction.
- Developing a quality-assurance mechanism and encouraging the regular assessment and improvement of teaching and research.
- Inviting scholars and experts with international vision and experience to soave consultants to the college to assist in developing realistic fields of studies, and ways and strategy for researching them.
- Establishing joint programs with overseas universities to provide students with more choices and exposure to new ideas.
